Writing large desktop-like applications in SproutCore comes with a unique set of challenges that you wouldn’t encounter writing a smaller application. During that time, we have pioneered many advanced techniques that are now commonly used. SproutCore 1.0 was designed to build apps with native-style interaction. That meant providing a rich set of controls, such as scroll bars [...]

  • Rajaratnam Wants Jury Verdict Overturned

    Updated: 2011-05-28 18:00:00
Convicted hedge fund felon Raj Rajaratnam wants the presiding judge in his months-long trial on insider trading charges to throw out the verdict that could send him to jail for a very long time. On Wednesday his lawyers renewed a motion to have him acquitted and his slate wiped clean after a federal jury found him guilty of all 14 counts of conspiracy and securities fraud on May 11. The defense tried the same thing after the government rested its case and again after all the evidence was presented. This time his lawyers claim that despite the massive wiretap evidence against him the prosecution failed to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt on at least five of the 14 counts. read more

  • Software AG Buys Terracotta to Be Cloud Player

    Updated: 2011-05-24 14:00:00
Software AG is buying Terracotta, whose open source widgetry makes Java-based enterprise applications run faster and scale without rewriting the code. The German company wants the start-up as the basis of a perspective cloud offering, expecting to use it to turn into a Platform-as-a-Service house. It figures Terracotta’s Ehcache technology, the de facto caching standard for enterprise Java, will “dramatically” increase the performance and scalability of its own Business Process Excellence platform. Terracotta will be the in-memory technology in the Software AG product stack. Release of the first combined products is due in Q4. SAG’s cloud-based PaaS roll-out is scheduled for next year. read more

    Updated: 2011-05-04 13:03:00
Highlighting an input field that failed validation (or conversation) is a common UI practice today. This sort of functionality is not available in JSF (nor RichFaces) out of the box (Seam does have it). I got an email from RichFaces 4 workshop attendee from CONFESS_2011 conference asking how to do it and I thought it’s a good idea to make it blog post. It turns out, implementing such functionality is pretty simple. All we need to do is check if a particular field (component) is valid and then render or not render a style for the input field. read more

  • Marcin Ignac Timeline.js

    Updated: 2011-05-03 04:16:25
Marcin Ignac Home Blog Experiments Projects About Timeline.js Timeline.js is a compact JavaScript animation library with a GUI timeline for fast . editing Again Why As with ActionScript3 there exist many animation libraries for JavaScript . Some of them are too specific some are too structured and others are too simple None of them has all the features I needed : though simple api works easily both for short animations fired by e.g . mouse events and for long sequences Additionaly there is the same problem with procedural animation coming over and over : again tweaking by hand edit save refresh hardcoded values And , Yes . I want to do LONG animation in JavaScript . Like several minutes . Why Think WebGL demos . Wouldn't it be easier to use graphical timeline like in Flash or After Effects
